”Alchemy” is another mysterious creation by Tom. We don’t want to reveal too much about this one and would prefer the listener find their own meaning in it. Let’s just say the song uses plenty of metaphors inside a slight science fiction landscape. There’s a nod to later-era Bowie in the song and paves a new direction for the band. Once again, there’s a reference to the band’s past. The lyrics ”Heaven on a licorice tree” are a throwback to a verse from the Tom song, ”Broken Toys”.
